Qatar Classic Squash Tournament starts September 4, 2022

Doha (Qatar):-Egypt’s World No.1 Ali Farag will return to Doha for the first time since taking victory in 2020, as he starts his 2022-2023 season as the top seed for the Qatar Classic, which will take place from September 4 to 10, 2022.
Farag missed last year’s tournament, but has fond memories of the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex, having won this tournament in 2020, when he defeated New Zealand’s Paul Coll in the final. The pair will be the top two seeds once again next month, with Farag set to face either Mexico’s Cesar Salazar or Qatar’s Syed Azlan Amjad, one of two wildcards for the event. He could then face either Colombia’s Miguel Rodriguez or Switzerland’s Nicolas Mueller in the third round, before a possible meeting with England’s Mohamed ElShorbagy in the last eight.
Meanwhile, double Commonwealth Games Gold Medallist Paul Coll will start his campaign in Doha against either home favourite Abdulla Al Tamimi or India’s Ramit Tandon, followed by a possible meeting with either Germany’s Raphael Kandra or England’s George Parker. Welshman Joel Makin could lie in wait in the last eight, in was would be a repeat of their Commonwealth Games final.
Defending champion Diego Elias will meet Indian #1 Saurav Ghosal, the Commonwealth Games Bronze Medallist, in the second round in Doha, before a possible clash with England’s Adrian Waller in the last 16. Either Frenchman Gregoire Marche or Egypt’s Tarek Momen, the winner of the 2019-2020 PSA World Championships at the very same venue, could lie in wait for the Peruvian in the quarter finals.
Egypt’s World #3 Mostafa Asal will face one of the toughest tests possible in his opening match of the 2022-2023 season, as he will take on World #9 Marwan ElShorbagy in the second round of the Platinum level tournament. Possible meetings with Egypt’s Fares Dessouky and Mazen Hesham could come prior to the quarter finals.
Catalina invites world to share coffee to promote World Squash Day

ISLAMABAD:-Colombian squash star Catalina Pelaez has once again invited the world of squash to share a coffee to promote World Squash Day.
Pelaez, the former world No.56 who has won numerous medals for Colombia, has drawn on her skills as a photographer and graphic artist to produce another set of images to promote squash’s biggest global grassroots project.
She said: “People often get together over a coffee to make plans, so what better way for the world of squash to plan World Squash Day than by sharing a virtual coffee.”
World Squash Day takes place on Saturday October 15th and founder Alan Thatcher said: “It’s wonderful to see Catalina’s brilliant creative skills helping to promote squash’s biggest global party.
“Simply by sharing one of these images on social media, clubs and federations can reinforce the message that it’s time to get together over a coffee to make plans to grow the game on World Squash Day.”
In a recent article for Squash Mad, Catalina described a speech she made at a women’s networking event in Bogota.
She held the audience spellbound as she told how she was rescued from a 2003 terrorist car bomb attack at the squash club where she was training in Bogota.
Pelaez said: “In the year 2003, I was a victim of the Colombian armed conflict. I was in a car bomb explosion at Club El Nogal, led by the F.A.R.C, which was one of the biggest terrorists’ groups in my country.
“I had already started playing squash and I was improving a lot. After this terrorist attack, I was lucky that a man found me, picked me up and took me out of the club. I had many injuries, couldn’t walk for two months, and couldn’t play squash for about five months.
“Most of the time, all I could think of was to get better to be able to do sports. Sports was my motivation and my salvation during those hard times.”
Seven years after her terrible injuries in the car bomb attack, she attended Trinity College in the USA, before reaching a highest world ranking of 56 in October 2015.
In 2019, she and Miguel Rodriguez won the gold medal in the mixed doubles competition in the Pan-American Games in Lima, Peru.
Catalina has won numerous gold medals for Colombia in the South American Games, in team events and doubles, and she won the singles championship in 2018 in Cochabamba, Bolivia.
World Squash Day is endorsed by the World Squash Federation and the PSA Foundation, and is supported by federations and clubs around the globe.
Nasir Iqbal wins PSF International Squash Tournament title

ISLAMABAD:-World No 115 Nasir Iqbal from Pakistan outclassed his compatriot World No 110 Noor Zaman in straight games 3-0 in the final of the PSF-Combaxx International Squash Tournament at Mushaf Squash Complex, Islamabad on Sunday. The final score-line was 11-7, 11-7 and 11-6, as the match lasted just 33 minutes.
Air Marshal Zulfiqar Ahmad Qureshi, Deputy Chief of the Air Staff (Training) graced the closing ceremony as chief guest and awarded trophies & prize money to the finalist players. Squash legend Qamar Zaman, CEO Combaxx Sports Omar Saeed also attended the ceremony.
During the final match, World No 115 Nasir Iqbal from Pakistan beat his country fellow World No 110 Noor Zaman with a game score of 11-7, 11-7 and 11-6.

ISLAMABAD:-World No 110 Noor Zaman and World No 115 Nasir Iqbal set to meet in the final of the PSF-Combaxx International Squash Tournament 2022 after winning their semifinals at Mushaf Squash Complex, Islamabad on Saturday. The final will be played at the same venue on Sunday.
In the first semifinal, World No 110 local player Noor Zaman ousted World No 151 compatriot Mohammad Ashab Irfan 3-1 after lasting 50 minutes in the four glass-wall court of Mushaf Squash Complex. The final score-line was 11-8, 11-7, 6-11 and 12-10.
Later on, in the second semifinal, World No 115 Nasir Iqbal got rid of his Egyptian opponent World No 188 Abdallah Elmasry 3-2 in a well contested five games match. The final score-line was 11-8, 8-11, 11-6, 10-12 and 11-7, as the match duration was 48 minutes.

ISLAMABAD:-Noor Zaman Khan, Mohammad Ashab Irfan, Nasir Iqbal and Abdullah Elmasry moved into the semifinals of the PSF-Combaxx International Squash Tournament after beating their rivals in the quarterfinals here at Mushaf Squash Complex on Friday. The semifinals will be played on Saturday at the same venue.

ISLAMABAD:-Six local players moved into the quarterfinals of the ongoing PSF-Combaxx International Squash Tournament after winning their respective matches at Mushaf Squash Complex, Islamabad on Thursday.
Mohammad Hamza Khan posted an amazing victory after eliminating his Iranian opponent Sepehr Etemadpoor 3-2 in a well contested five games encounter. It was most interesting and thrilling match of day, as the both players displayed top squash and amused sizeable spectators with their game skill. The final score-line was 5-11, 11-5, 11-9, 8-11 and 11-8 after lasting 42 minutes.

Australia to host WSF World Junior Squash Championships 2023

ISLAMABAD:-The World Squash Federation (WSF) board has awarded the 2023 WSF World Junior Squash Championships to Squash Australia, following the conclusion of the 2022 championships last week, which saw Egypt’s Amina Orfi and the Netherlands’ Rowan Damming win the individual titles and England win the men’s team title.
The 2023 event will feature a junior men’s and women’s individual tournament and the women’s junior team championships and will begin an exciting decade of sport for Australia, which will host the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Victoria and the 2032 Olympic Games in Brisbane. Australia has successfully hosted various major WSF events, including Men’s and Women’s World Team Championships, World Junior Championships, World Doubles and the World Masters Championships.
Squash Australia was originally awarded the 2020 WSF World Junior Championships, only for the event to be cancelled due to the COVID-19 global pandemic. The hosts will hope for a successful championship to help Australia return to the pinnacle of the sport, with Australia last capturing the world junior title in 1995 in Sydney, when a team of Rachael Grinham, Emma Major, Kate Major and Narelle Tippett won the trophy on home ground.

“Australia is very proud to be selected to host the 2023 WSF World Junior Championships, welcoming the next generation of squash stars ‘Down Under’ for the first time in nearly 30 years. We have such a unique opportunity in Australia over the next 10 years with the “Green and Gold” runway to Victoria 2026 and Brisbane 2032. Showcasing the world’s best junior squash talent from 35+ nations is a special opportunity, and we look forward to delivering a memorable tournament.

“It’s really important for the sport to have these prestigious events as part of the lead into the Commonwealth Games in Victoria in four years’ time, and as part of the huge surge in momentum to the Olympics in Brisbane. It provides an important platform for Squash Australia to grow squash in numbers and performance across Australia. We hope it is a great incentive for Australia’s journey back to the podium.
“We can also rely on Australia’s great track record for hosting events. It was unfortunate we didn’t make it to Australia for the 2020 World Juniors, but actually 2023 is maybe better timing. Having visited the country many times for squash events, I know just how much the players will love the experience of visiting Australia.”

ISLAMABAD:-As many as 11 Pakistani, 2 Egyptian, 2 Iranian and 1 Malaysian player have reached in the 16-man stage, as the 7 players got bye in the PSF-Combaxx International Squash Tournament for Men that started at Mushaf Squash Complex, Islamabad on Wednesday.
The tournament carries prize money of US$ 12,000, which is being played under the banner of Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF). Final will be played on August 28 at the same venue.

Nancy (France):-Egypt brushed aside to Pakistan 2-1 to move into the final of the Team Event of the World Junior Squash Championship 2022 at the Jarvilla Glass Court, Nancy France on Saturday.
In the 1st match, Kareem El Torky from Egypt beat Mohammad Hamza Khan from Pakistan 3-0 with the score-line of 11-8, 11-8 and 11-5 in 33 minutes. In the 2nd match, Noor Zaman from Pakistan beat Mohammed Nasser from Egypt 3-1 at 11-3, 7-11, 11-3 and 11-6 in 40 minutes. Meanwhile in the last match Mohammed Zakaraya from Egypt defeated Mohammad Ashab Irfan from Pakistan 3-1 with the score-line of 11-6, 7-11, 13-11 and 11-8, as the match lasted 29 minutes.

Pakistan outclass India in World Junior Team Event Squash

Nancy (France):-Pakistan outclassed traditional rival India in straight match 2-0 in the Team Event of the ongoing World Junior’s Squash Championship 2022 in Nancy France. Now Pakistan will meet Egypt in the semifinal.
In the first match, Mohammad Hamza toiled hard in the court to get rid of Arnav Sereen 3-2 after a well contested five games match. Pakistani lad won the first two games easily but could not maintain the same pace in the next two games, which he lost at 1-11 and 6-11. However, in the decisive game, Hamza displayed to quality squash and clinched the game at score of 11-5.
Noor Zaman Khan thrashed Krishna Mishra in straight games 3-0 in the second match after lasting just 32 minutes. Maenwhile, Egypt stunned United States of America in similar style 2-0 to move into the semifinals of the top international juniors squash fixture.
