LAHORE (October 16, 2022): Pakistan’s first Test captain Abdul Hafeez Kardar and country’s most successful Test batter and 2009 T20 World Cup winning captain Younis Khan have been inducted into the PCB Hall of Fame. The two iconic figures of Pakistan cricket have joined Abdul Qadir, Fazal Mahmood, Hanif Mohammad, Imran Khan, Javed Miandad, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis and Zaheer Abbas in the illustrious group.
Kardar (posthumously) and Younis were inducted following a transparent voting process, which was participated by Javed Miandad, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis (all former Pakistan men’s captains and PCB Hall of Famers), Sana Mir, Urooj Mumtaz (both former Pakistan women’s captains), Aaliya Rasheed, Dr Nauman Niaz, Rasheed Shakoor, Qamar Ahmed and Waheed Khan (all respected print and broadcast journalists).
PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja siad:
“The PCB Hall of Fame is designed to acknowledge, recognise and cherish the sacrifices, contributions and achievements of the role models in our sport and it is befitting that in our diamond jubilee celebrations, we induct two stalwarts from two completely different generations and eras of our proud cricket history.
“AH Kardar gave us a cricket dream, vision and mission in our formation years, and Younis Khan was one of the players who gave his absolute best in fulfilling those expectations through exemplary hard work, deep commitment and untiring performances against all opposition and across all formats.
Younis Khan said:
“I feel honoured and humbled to have been inducted into the PCB Hall of Fame by the Pakistan Cricket Board. There are many notable names amongst the list inducted prior to me, whose performances have been outstanding. I, thus, feel it a matter of immense pride and honour for my name to be amongst those legends, having given my all to make my country proud.
“Success is something that should not be attributed to just an individual, for there are many stakeholders who have helped me in my journey, and to whom I am indebted: my family, team-mates, captains and support staff, and all those who provided me with the opportunity to serve my country and team with respect and dignity. Collectively, everybody along my journey shaped me and instilled within me the tenacity and drive.

RAWALPINDI: Azhar Ali stroked his 45th first-class century as Central Punjab justified their decision of batting first against Northern by reaching 300 for three at stumps on day one of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy fourth round fixture at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad on Saturday.
The 37-year-old veteran of 95 Tests was batting on 130 and with him was Tayyab Tahir on 82 as the two batters have put on 168 runs for the unfinished fourth wicket. The two had joined hands after Nauman Ali had picked up two of the three wickets to reduce Central Punjab to 132 for three.
Azhar Ali’s 209-ball innings includes 15 fours and four sixes, while Tayyab has struck six fours and four sixes in a 130-ball knock. Abid Ali (11), Abdullah Shafique (32) and Mohammad Saad (27) were the batters to return back to the pavilion.
Sindh and ATF Southern Punjab let Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan off the hook, respectively in the other two matches.
At the Pindi Cricket Stadium in a match that is being live-streamed, Sindh’s decision to field first appeared to be spot-on after Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had slipped to 128-5 after being 111 for two. However, Kamran Ghulam and Mohammad Sarwar Afridi rescued their side from complete collapse by stitching an unfinished 163-run sixth wicket partnership to take their side to 291 for five at stumps.
Kamran Ghulam was batting on 89, an innings that has come from 186 balls and includes nine fours and two sixes, while Sarwar’s 118-ball 79 contains 11 fours and two sixes.
Earlier, Sahibzada Farhan (53) and Rehan Afridi (47) had added 98 runs for the third wicket to lift the defending championship to 111 for two after Sindh fast bowler Mir Hamza had removed both the openers with the scoreboard reading 13. Fast bowler Mohammad Umar, in the second session, picked up two wickets after Arbab Ahmed had ended the third wicket partnership by accounting for Rehan.
The story was not too different at the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium where Balochistan recovered from 102 for three to finish the day at 225 for four in 83 overs against ATF Southern Punjab. Former Test batter Asad Shafiq saved his side’s blushes when he returned undefeated on 70 from 111 balls with 10 fours.
Asad added 112 runs for the fourth wicket with Haris Sohail, who contributed 37, after openers Ali Waqas (45) and Imran Butt (30) had provided Balochistan a 73-run start before they lost three wickets for 29 runs.
For ATF Southern Punjab, Mohammad Imran Randhawa has bagged two wickets for 34 runs.

LAHORE: Pakistan have made one change in their squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Australia 2022 with Fakhar Zaman and Usman Qadir swapping places. Fakhar is included in the 15-player squad and Usman has moved to the traveling reserves.
The change was necessary as Usman Qadir is yet to recover from a hairline fracture on his right thumb that he suffered during the 25 September T20I against England in Karachi. The leg-spinner will not be available for selection before 22 October.
Fakhar will arrive in Brisbane from London along with Shaheen Shah Afridi on Saturday and will be available for selection in the two warm-up matches against England (17 October) and Afghanistan (19 October), during which the team management will assess the left-handed batter’s fitness.

It is not only Achini Kulasuriya's sportsmanship is hailed but another Sri Lankan woman player also won the hearts of the fans on Thursday.
The 36-year-old slow left-arm spinner Inoka Ranaweera had won the Player of the Match award for her 2 wickets against Pakistan in the Women's Asia Cup in Bangladesh but instead of pocketing the Award alone, she preferred to share it with Achini, whose last over denied Pakistan the berth in the final.
"Sharing an award was an instant decision", Inoka Ranaweera, speaking exclusively over the telephone from Bangladesh, said.
"I wanted to appreciate her great effort. We have a great team spirit. We always support each other and celebrate success together".
"I think all the players contributed to this win. Final over was the most crucial one of the game. We were only allowed 3 fielders outside the 25 yard. So I think Achini bowled a brilliant over in that pressure situation. My spell has no worth if we haven't won the game. So that's why I thought I should share the award", she explained her decision of sharing the award.
The terms for players winning the awards are changed from Man of the Match and Man of the Series to Player of the Match and Player of the Series. This avoids the gender discrimination.
"Yes, I think it's a good move. Now a lot of things have changed. I think everything is getting better", she signed off.
Multan beat Abbottabad by 74 runs in NBP T20 Blind Cricket final

Multan: Hosts Multan beat Abbottabad by 74 runs in the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) T-20 Blind Cricket Trophy 2022 Grade-2 final at Sports Complex Stadium, Multan on Friday.
In the morning, Abbottabad won the toss and asked Multan to take guard. Multan thrashed Abbottabad by a huge margin of 74 runs. Multan Team’s Captain Mohammad Safdar once again played an extraordinary innings of unbeaten 213 runs and well supported by Ghulam Akbar who scored 59 runs. The Multan team finished with a giant total of 306 runs for the loss of 2 wickets in their stipulated 20 overs.
In reply, Abbottabad batters were able to score 232 runs by losing their 5 wickets in stipulated 20 overs. Riasat Khan was their top scorer with unbeaten 148 runs. Arslan and Akbar took 1 wicket each. Mohammad Safdar was declared best player of the final.

Christchurch (October 14, 2022: Pakistan notched up their 21st T20I victory in 31 matches since the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup India 2021 when they defeated New Zealand by five wickets to win the T20I tri-series at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch on Friday.
A blistering 22-ball 38 not out by No.4 batter Mohammad Nawaz, a quick-fire 15-ball 31 by No.5 Haider Ali and a rapid 14-ball 25 not out by No.7 batter Iftikhar Ahmed ensured Pakistan headed to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Australia 2022 oozing with confidence after they achieved the 164-run target with three balls to spare.
Nawaz, who scored a 20-ball 45 in the previous match against Bangladesh, clobbered two fours and three sixes, while Haider ended his run drought with an innings that included three fours and two sixes. Iftikhar joined the party when 32 runs were required from 23 balls by slapping a four and a match-winning six.
The middle-order finally fired after Mohammad Rizwan (34), Babar Azam (15) and Shan Masood (19) had departed at the score of 74 for three to leave Pakistan requiring 90 runs from 51 balls. With Shadab Khan and Mohammad Wasim Jnr not required to bat on Friday, Pakistan demonstrated they have the ability and firepower in the middle-order that can take them a long way in the T20 World Cup in which Pakistan will play its Group 2 matches from 23 October to 6 November.
Nawaz and Haider turned the match on its head in the 15th over after Pakistan required 67 runs from the last six overs. Haider collected 13 runs from the first four deliveries from Ish Sodhi, before Nawaz belted successive sixes as the over yielded 25 runs. Haider departed in the following over, but after striking fours off Tim Southee to reduce Pakistan’s target to 34 runs from 25 balls.
Earlier, Kane Williamson scored at a strike-rate of 155 to top score for New Zealand with a 38-ball 59 that included four fours and two sixes. Glenn Phillips (29), Mark Chapman (25) and James Neesham (17) were the other notable run-getters as the home side only managed 33 runs in the last five overs against quality bowling by Pakistan.
Shadab Khan conceded four runs in the 16th over, Haris Rauf gave away 10 runs in his last two overs (17th and 20th), Mohammad Wasim’s final over (18th of the innings) cost 11 runs, while Naseem Shah picked up two wickets and conceded eight runs.
Haris finished with impressive figures of two for 22 runs, while Naseem Shah ended with figures of two for 38. Shadab Khan and Mohammad Nawaz gave away 63 runs in their eight overs.
Pakistan will now travel to Brisbane on Saturday where they will play two warm-up matches against England (17 October) and Afghanistan (19 October). They will take on India on 23 October in Melbourne in their tournament opener.
In Brisbane, they will reunite with Fakhar Zaman, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Matthew Hayden. Fakhar and Shaheen will travel after completing their rehabilitation in London, while Hayden will join as the team mentor for the T20 World Cup.

NBP Blind Trophy: Multan and Abbottabad storm into final

Multan (October 13, 2022):-Multan and Abbottabad set to meet in the final of the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) T-20 Blind Cricket Trophy 2022 Grade-II on October 14, 2022 (Friday) at Sports Complex Stadium, Multan, as both teams beat their respective challengers in semifinals at the same venue on Thursday.
In the first semifinal Multan overcame their opponent by 86 runs. Sheikhopura won the toss and decided to bowl first. Openers Mohammad Safdar and Ghulam Akbar destroyed the weak bowling of Sheikhopura and both aggregated 226 runs for the 1st wicket partnership. Multan set the gigantic total of 288 runs on the board for the loss of 2 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Mohammad Safdar once again shined with the bat and he scored unbeaten 170 not out runs while Ghulam Akbar chipped in with 60 runs. Aftab Hussain took 1 wicket.
In reply, Sheikhopura was restricted to 202 runs for the loss of 2 wickets in allotted 20 overs. Sanwal Shahzada was their highest scorer with unbeaten 130* runs and Ashraf Bhatti made 26 runs. Muhammad Arslan claimed 1 wicket for Multan. Mohammad Safdar declared man of the match.
Later, in the second semifinal, Abbottabad claimed one run victory against Faisalabad, who had won the toss and put Abbottabad into bat first. Abbottabad posted a competitive total of 222 runs on the board for the loss of 4 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Riasat Khan played an extraordinary innings of unbeaten 128 runs and Asnaad Khan made 30 runs. Usman took 1 wicket for Faisalabad.
In reply, Faisalabad tried their best to reach the target but fell just 1 run short of the target. Faisalabad’s team was able to score 221 runs by losing their 5 wickets in stipulated 20 overs. Bilal Ali was their top scorer with 82 runs while Ejaz Hussain made 29 runs. Sohaib, Adeel and Naeem Ullah got 1 wicket each for Abbottabad. Riasat Khan received man of the match award.

Sylhet, Bangladesh (October 13, 2022): Sri Lanka beat Pakistan by one run in a last-ball thriller in the second semi-final at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium (SICS) to qualify for the final of the ACC Women’s Asia Cup. The final will be played between India and Sri Lanka on Saturday, 15 October.
Requiring nine runs of the last over, and with three runs required to win off the final ball, Nida Dar was run-out while attempting to take a double, as Pakistan managed to score 121 for six in their 20 overs.
Chasing 123 runs to win, the opening pair of Muneeba Ali and Sidra Amin provided a solid 31-run start to the innings. The left-handed Muneeba scored 18 off 10 balls, hitting three fours, before getting herself run-out on the first ball of the fourth over. After the departure of Muneeba, captain Bismah Maroof joined Sidra and the pair added a 16-run partnership for the second wicket.
Sidra (nine off 20, 1x4) got back to the hut while playing a reverse flick off Inoka Ranaweera on the last ball of the seventh over with 47 runs on the board. In the batting powerplay, Pakistan scored 46 for one, and struck six fours. Pakistan were in a spot of bother when they lost Omaima Sohail (10, 14b) in the 11th over and scoreboard reading Pakistan 65 for three.
At the crucial juncture of the match, Bismah and Nida got together and the most experienced pair took Pakistan to 107, with Bismah getting dismissed for 42 off 41, studded with four fours. The pair stitched 42 runs for the fourth wicket.
The dismissal of Bismah gave a ray of hope to Sri Lanka and they fully capitalised on the chance and restricted Pakistan to 121. Nida scored run-a-ball 26, and struck one four.
For Sri Lanka, Inoka Ranweera bagged two wickets for 17 runs.
Earlier, after opting to bat first, Sri Lanka managed to score 122 for six in their 20 overs, on the back of 50-run partnership between Harshitha Samarawickrama (35, 41b, 1x4) and Nilakshi de Silva (14, 27b) for the third wicket. Opening batter Anushka Sanjeewani was other notable run getter with 26 off 21 balls, which included one four and one six.
Nashra Sandhu was the most successful bowler for the winning team with match figures of 4-0-17-3. Spinners Sadia Iqbal and Nida and right-arm fast Aiman Anwer scooped one wicket each.

Christchurch (October 13, 2022): Pakistan geared up for Friday’s final against New Zealand with an impressive seven wickets victory over Bangladesh in the final league match of the T20I tri-series in Christchurch on Thursday.
Mohammad Wasim Junior bowled a splendid last over to pick up two wickets conceding just three runs to restrict Bangladesh to 173 for six. Afterwards, Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam produced their eighth century partnership before Mohammad Nawaz sealed the match with a 20-ball cameo as Pakistan romped home for the loss of three wickets with one ball remaining.
Wasim finished with two for 33 though Naseem Shah was the most successful bowler with two for 33. Nawaz picked up one wicket for 27 runs.
Litton Das (69, 42b, 6x4, 2x6) and Shakib Al Hasan (68, 42b, 7x4, 6x3) put on 88 runs in 55 balls for the third wicket after Bangladesh were reduced to 41 for two. Bangladesh collected 41 runs in the four overs between 16-19 before Wasim pulled things in the last over as the Asian neighbours scored 44 runs in the final five overs.
In the run-chase, Mohammad Rizwan scored a 56-ball 69 with four fours, his 22nd career half-century, while Babar Azam struck nine fours in a 40-ball 55, his 29th career half-century. But it was Nawaz who closed the match with a 20-ball 45 that included five fours and a six.
Rizwan and Babar added 101 runs for the first wicket in 76 balls, Rizwan and Nawaz put on 64 runs for the third wicket from 36 balls.
Mohammad Rizwan was adjudged player of the match, his ninth award since February 2021 and ninth overall in 71 matches.
While Pakistan will be content with their third victory in four matches in Christchurch, they must be worried with the continued failure of Haider Ali. Haider had the platform to perform following a century first-wicket partnership, but was dismissed for a second-ball duck. Haider has managed only 24 runs in four matches with 10 not out against New Zealand being his highest.

Multan: Hosts Multan, Sheikhopura, Faisalabad and Abbottabad moved into the semifinals of National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) T-20 Blind Cricket Trophy 2022 Grade-2 after winning their respective matches at two different venues of Multan city on Wednesday.
On Thursday, 1st semifinal will be played between Multan and Sheikhopura while 2nd Semifinal will be played between Abbottabad and Faisalabad at Sports Complex Stadium, Multan.
Multan beat Sargodha by 8 wickets at Sports Complex Stadium
In the morning, Multan won the toss and asked Sargodha to take guard. Sargodha set the competitive total of 228 runs on the board for the loss of 3 wickets in stipulated 20 overs. Gul Sher was the top scorer with 130 runs and Zain Ashraf made 56 runs. Abubakar took 2 wickets while Safdar claimed 1 wicket.
In reply, Multan chased down the target in 15.3 overs by losing their 2 wickets. Mohammad Safdar played a superb innings of 127 runs. He was the highest scorer and Ahsan Razzaq made 45 runs. Gul Sher took 1 wicket.

Sheikhopura beat Karachi by 10 wickets at M C Cricket Ground
Karachi won the toss and decided to bowl first. Sheikhopura scored 198 runs in allotted 20 overs for the loss of 8 wickets. Aftab Hussain was the highest scorer with 77 runs. Rasheed Akbar took 2 wickets.
In reply Karachi was restricted to 188 runs for All out in 16.5 overs. Jandal Khan was their leading scorer with 44 runs. Ahmed claimed 2 wickets while Sanwal fetched 1 wicket.

Quetta won the toss and put Abbottabad in to bat first. Abbottabad set the huge target of 264 runs for Quetta by losing their 3 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Naeem Ullah was the top scorer with 119 runs.
In reply, Quetta scored 224 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in allotted 20 overs. Niamt Ullah was the leading scorer with 125 runs.

Faisalabad won the toss and decided to bowl first. Hyderabad made 146 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in stipulated 20 overs. Imran Sarwar was the top scorer with 42 runs while Amjad Mugheri made 41 runs. Usman Bilal Ali and Ejaz Hussian took 1 wicket each.
In Reply Faisalabad achieved the target of 147 runs in 18.3 overs for the loss of 6 wickets. Ejaz Hussain was the star batsman, he scored 49 runs and Bilal Ali made 28 runs for Faisalabad. Imran Sarwar fetched 1 wicket for Hyderabad.
