MULTAN: Mahfuzur Rahman Rabby’s all-round show took Bangladesh 1-0 up in the two-match U19 T20 series against Pakistan. Rabby returned two for 15 and scored 38 off 25 as Bangladesh defeated Pakistan by five wickets at the Multan Cricket Stadium.
Pakistan managed 143 for eight after Bangladesh elected to bowl. Opener Basit Ali top-scored with 36 off 25 (four fours and a six) and Saad Baig, the Pakistan captain, made run-a-ball 28 (one six and one four). Bangladesh’s Tanvir Ahammed was the pick of the bowler with three for 25.
Bangladesh lost four wickets for 69 but solid knocks from middle order batters Mohammad Shihab James, who made unbeaten 41 off 33 (two sixes and two fours), and Rabby took the visitors safely over the line with three balls spare. Mohammad Zeeshan took two wickets for 24.

Under-19 Women: Sri Lankan team wins against West Indies

Sri Lankan Women’s Under-19 team won its match against the West Indies U-19 team by 6 wickets at the Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA VDCA Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.
Both West Indies and Sri Lanka's U-19 teams are in India to participate in the Quadrangular Women's U-19 T-20 series.
The BCCI has fielded two teams A and B for this series. Sri Lanka's U-19 captain Vishmi Gunarathne had won the toss and invited the Windies team to bat first. Ashmi Munishar-led Windies scored 95 runs for three wickets in 20 overs.
In reply, Sri Lankan batters achieved the target in 15.1 overs and scored 99 runs and lost four wickets.
Opening batter and captain could score only one run but another opener and wk Sumudu Nisansala's aggressive batting (33 runs which included 8 fours) was the top scorer of the Sri Lankan innings, whereas Windies wk opener Shunelle Sawh was the top scorer (35*) of the match.
Australian Courts agree to hear Gunathilaka bail applications

Danushka Gunathilaka's bail application (no. 2022/00337563) will be heard by the Supreme Court on 28th November, it is learnt and also confirmed by Sri Lanka and Australia-based advocate Chanaka Senanayake, who was earlier coordinating the player's case.
According to the highly-placed sources in Australia, on Monday, the Sri Lankan all-rounder Danushka Gunathilaka bail application in the Supreme Court was submitted to the Registrar G. Galani by his new lawyer and the same has been accepted and accordingly it will be heard at 9.00 AM on 28th November.
Incidentally, the lawyers had also filed an application (no. 2022/00337572) to the local court stating that the rejection of the first bail appeal be heard again but by some other judge and accordingly, it has also been accepted to be heard on 17th November at 9.30 AM.
The 31-year-old Danushka Gunathilaka is facing the alleged criminal charges for raping a 29-year-old woman in Australia.
These applications will now be heard in Courts 4.4 or 4.5 Downing Street Centre Courts.
Danushka's new lawyer is Ivan Zayed. The services of another prominent lawyer Anand Amarnath will no longer be hired for this case, it is also learnt.
After elimination from the World Cup, the Sri Lankan team returned home without Danushka for his alleged crime. The investigators have described Danushka as a "flight risk" in their report. The term "flight risk" is used to describe a person under custody of law enforcement who is considered likely to abscond.

RAWALPINDI: The ninth round of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2022-23 season began in Karachi and Lahore while the opening day was lost due to rain in Abbottabad. Northern who opted to bat in their game against Sindh at the National Bank Cricket Arena (National Stadium, Karachi) made great use of a batting friendly pitch as openers Mohammad Huraira and Hasan Raza combined for a 266-run stand.
Both Huraira and Hasan dominated the proceedings from the start as Sindh bowlers failed to make inroads.
Hasan was the first to reach three figures, the left-hander hit 19 fours in his 135 off 203 balls. He was eventually dismissed by Abrar Ahmed in the final session of play.
By stumps, Huraira was still at the crease as Northern reached 350 for one in 90 overs. The right-handed Huraira has so far hit 22 fours and one six in his 170 (279 balls). Umar Amin was unbeaten on 32, the two have so far added 84 runs for the second-wicket.
Balochistan made most of their bowling first decision against Central Punjab at the LCCA Ground after rain and a wet outfield reduced the day’s play to a single session.
Left-arm pacer Akif Javed did the damage by taking three wickets for 31 runs by close of play on the first day.
Qasim Akram was unbeaten on 24 when stumps were drawn after 23.3 overs due to bad light. The Central Punjab top-order consisting Abid Ali (2), Abdullah Shafique (15), Mohammad Saad (1) and Tayyab Tahir (14) fell cheaply.

Lahore: Nida Dar’s all-round performance and Ayesha Naseem’s quick-fire 25 helped Pakistan to a six-wicket win over Ireland in the second T20I here at the Gaddafi Stadium on Monday and also level the three match series 1-1. The series decider will be played on Wednesday, 16 November.
Chasing 119 to win in 17 overs, after the start of the play was delayed due to rain, the opening pair of Javeria Khan and Muneeba Ali provided a 26-run start off 19 balls before Muneeba fell to Arlene Kelly for 10-ball 12. Captain Bismah (2 off 5 balls) was next to go with 29 runs on the board.
Javeria was joined by Nida and the two most experienced batters added 46 runs for the third wicket. Both Javeria (35, 39b, 3x4) and Nida (28, 25b, 1x4,1x6) ran themselves out and Pakistan were four down with 97 runs on the board.
The right-handed Ayesha struck two sixes and one four in her unbeaten knock of 25 from 12 balls, while Aliya Riaz struck two boundaries and returned unbeaten on 11 off seven balls. Both batters helped the hosts achieved the target with one over to spare.
Earlier, after opting to field first, Pakistan bowlers kept Ireland batters in check as the tourists managed to score 118 for seven in their allotted 17 overs. Opening batter Amy Hunter top-scored for her side with a 39-ball 36, which included three fours. Orla Prendergast who was declared player of the match in the previous game managed to score 20 0ff 17 balls, hitting three fours.
For Pakistan, spinners Nida and Nashra Sundhu bagged two wickets apiece.

MULTAN: Half-centuries by Ashiqur Rahman Shibli, Parvez Rahman Jibon and Ahrar Amin handed Bangladesh four-wicket win in the third and final Under-19 one-day against Pakistan at the Multan Cricket Stadium on Monday. With the win, Bangladesh won the three-match series 2-1.
Chasing 221, Shibli, the Bangladesh opener, top-scored in the innings with a sparkling 56-ball 72. He was the only batter in the top five to post a double-digit score and struck 11 fours and two sixes.
Jibon and Ahrar paired up when Bangladesh were 113 for five. They added 85 runs for the sixth wicket that took Bangladesh over the line with an over spare.
Jibon, later awarded player of the match, returned undefeated on 57. He faced 59 balls and hit five fours and a six. Amin, the Bangladesh skipper, made 52 off 70, hitting six fours.
Pakistan’s Mohammad Tayyab Arif made 87 off 104, smashing eight fours and a six, after Bangladesh elected to bowl.
Tayyab walked in the middle with no runs on the board as Mohammad Farooq was dismissed by Rohanat Doullah Borson, who took three wickets.
Arafat Minhas continued his good run with the bat with an electrifying 43 at a strike rate of 165 (hitting three sixes and three fours). Arafat was named player of the series – he racked up 171 runs, which included two half-centuries, in three innings at a strike rate of 123, getting dismissed only once. He also took three wickets – two of them in this match.
Uzair Mumtaz hit four fours and a six in his 39-ball 34 before becoming a victim of Mohammad Rafi Uzzaman, who also took three wickets but had the best bowling figures as he gave away only 29 runs, eight less than Borson.
Morning rain shaved off three overs from each innings as the match was reduced to 42 overs per innings.
The last leg of the tour will see the two sides compete in two T20s on 16 and 18 November at the Multan Cricket Stadium.

LAHORE: Pakistan fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi has been advised two-week rehabilitation after he landed awkwardly while taking Harry Brook’s catch during Sunday’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 final in Melbourne.
The scan conducted on Monday morning prior to the team’s departure for Pakistan, has confirmed there were no signs of an injury and the knee discomfort was likely “due to a forced knee flexion whilst landing”.
The scans were discussed between PCB’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr Najeebullah Soomro, and Australian knee specialist, Dr Peter D’Alessandro, and it was reassuring to know that there was no injury. The left-arm fast bowler is feeling better and is in high spirits.
Shaheen will undergo rehabilitation and conditioning programme that has been designed to strengthen his knee at the National High Performance Centre few days after his return to Pakistan.
Shaheen’s return to international cricket will be subject to the champion fast bowler’s successful completion of the rehabilitation programme and following go-aheads by the medical staff.

Multan: Half-centuries from Arafat Minhas, Mohammad Tayyab Arif and Shawaiz Irfan and three wickets by Mohammad Zeeshan led Pakistan U19 to a 128-run win over Bangladesh U19 in the second one-day at the Multan Cricket Stadium. The win also means the series is level on 1-1 with the third and final 45-over-match to be played on 14 November at the same venue.
After being put into bat, Pakistan managed to score 242 for eight in their allotted 45 overs. Mohammad Tayyab Arif coming to bat at number three top-scored for his side with a 98-ball 66, which included six fours and one six. Arafat Minhas batting at number seven returned undefeated on 57 off 41 balls, hitting eight fours and one six. Shawaiz Irfan was other notable run getter for the hosts with a quick-fire 51 off 39 balls, striking three fours and four sixes.
For Bangladesh, Iqbal Hossain Emmon and Maruf Mridha bagged two wickets apiece.
In return, the visitors were bowled out for 114 in 28 overs. Only three batters – Ashiqur Rahman (42, 36b, 8x4), Sharear Sakib (16, 29b, 1x4) and Iqbal Hossain (11 not out, 12b, 2x4) managed to enter into double figures.
Right-arm fast Zeeshan was the pick of the bowlers with match figures of 7-3-20-3. Ali Asfand and Ali Raza took two wickets each.

MULTAN: Maruf Mridha’s player of the match bowling performance of four wickets for 38 runs and half-centuries by openers Chowdhury Mohammad Rizwan and Ashiqur Rahman Shibli handed Bangladesh a comfortable seven-wicket win over Pakistan in the first of three U19 one-day matches at the Multan Cricket Stadium.
Mridha’s splendid opening spell reduced Pakistan to three for three after Bangladesh captain Ahrar Amin decided to bowlat the toss. Pakistan, however, managed to score 202, thanks to brilliant fightback from Arafat Minhas and Uzair Mumtaz.
Arafat top-scored with 77-ball 71 not out, smashing seven fours and four sixes, and Uzair scored 57 off 76 in which he hit four fours and two sixes.
Mohammad Tayyab Arif was the only player to put up a notable score in the top order with 28.
Bangladesh openers Rizwan and Shibli never allowed Pakistan any opportunity of bouncing back with their solid opening stand of 160. Rizwan made 79 off 86 balls, hitting 10 fours and a six, while Shibli made 74 in 112 balls (eight fours).
Pakistan’s Ali Raza dismissed both openers, but it was all too late by then as Sharear Sakib (18 not out) and Ahrar (seven not out) took the visitors over the line comfortably with 4.5 overs spare.
The second and third one-day matches will be played on 12 and 14 November.

Vishmi Gunarathne appointed first Under-19 captain

Vishmi Gunarathne becomes the first Under-19 Women’s captain for the Sri Lankan team. The 17-year-old right-handed opening batter is leading the team for the India tour.
"Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) board is sending the U-19 team for the first time overseas and obviously we are delighted with my daughter being named captain but this has "not surprised" us. No surprise since she already showed her talents``, her father Aruna Gunarathne, speaking exclusively over tge telephone from Colombo said on Wednesday evening.
Interestingly, the family is yet to congratulate Vishmi on this good news. "We got through the Sri Lanka Cricket Website and still have not talked to Vishmi since she is busy with her training".
"Very talented Girl is being selected to the Leadership and has proven this by achieving the champions in the All Island U 19 championship 2022 under her Captaincy. We want to see that my daughter is working hard to perform the best in any time by self motivation", he added further.
"Principal, MIC and Head Coach of the Rathnavali Balika Vidyalaya has calculated long time master plans to produce such talented cricketers.
Hashan Thilakarathna former National Coach and the U19 Head coach Shashikala Siriwardana are helping to develop her international cricket", the father concluded.
Sri Lanka's Under-19 Women’s Team arrived on India tour on November 9, 2022, to take part in a T20 quadrangular tournament involving India's U19 "A" and "B" teams and the West Indies Under-19.
