Islamabad (Sports Desk):The International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) appointed Piero Rebaudengo as its new Secretary General, with immediate effect. He succeeds Debra Gawrych, who previously held the position.
Rebaudengo has served as the IFSC’s General Director since December 2019, a role in which he has demonstrated a strong commitment to the development and governance of sport climbing. With this new appointment, he brings continuity, expertise, and strategic insight to a pivotal leadership position within the organisation.
His appointment marks a significant step in the IFSC’s continued efforts to strengthen its institutional framework and align with the best practices promoted by the International Olympic Committee and the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations.
As outlined in the IFSC Statutes, the Secretary General plays a crucial role in consolidating coordination within the IFSC structure. Mr Rebaudengo will support the Executive Board and administration in implementing the Federation’s strategic priorities, further enhancing efficiency and cohesion across all levels of the organisation.
Just over three years ahead of the 34th Olympic Games in Los Angeles—where Climbing will feature six medal events for the first time—it’s worth noting that the new Secretary General already has a special connection to the host city and Long Beach area, one forged on an Olympic podium with the Italian volleyball team nearly four decades ago.
The IFSC congratulates Rebaudengo on his appointment and looks forward to this exciting new chapter under his leadership.
